北寺是大家比较熟悉的一个景点，开发建设较早，但经历了几次山洪的肆虐，基础设施已大半毁损。从去年３月开始，阿左旗贺兰山北寺旅游开发有限责任公司投资７００多万元，对北寺进行了大规模重建，使其焕发了新的生机与活力。
“五一”试营业期间，北寺的门票暂定为每人１０元。进入景区后，北寺美景将陆续展现在游人面前：千指峰宛如一只只巨型的手指，奇异瑰丽；男山、女山两相对应，似乎正在为您讲述美丽的传说；“卧象汲水”不仅形象逼真，而且有石有水，灵秀逼人。随后，顺着新修建的水泥路面，六字真言福地、白塔、一世活佛灵塔、状元峰、阿旺丹德尔敖包、阿拉善敖包等著名景点便陆续映入眼帘。记者在现场看到，旅游公司聘请的专业人员正在对景区内１０００多幅岩画进行彩绘，昔日尘封的宗教遗迹已重新焕发出瑰丽夺目的光彩。
记者登上新修的瞭望塔，临风远望，但见东面的云台峰、落日峰、观霞亭、兄妹峰等正沐浴在落日余辉下，气势磅礴；西面，一轮落日正缓缓没入天际，渐渐与大漠融为一体；而山脚下，福音寺主殿美丽的琉璃瓦顶，正在夕阳下熠熠生辉。另外，景区内的特色娱乐项目也是一大亮点：匹特勃、打靶和弹弓打金钱等游戏都面向游客开放，而且好玩不贵。
目前，巴彦浩特已经开通了北寺旅游班车，团体游客免费接送，散客每人收取５元左右的车费。进入景区后，游客还可以乘坐每人收费５元的电瓶车到达云台峰下的长廊。
