描述ZantedeschiaSpreng.马蹄莲属，天南星科，约8－9种，产非洲南部至东北部，现各热带地区常有栽培，我国引入栽培有马蹄莲Z.aethiopica（L.）Spreng.等4种，供观赏。多年生草本；根茎粗厚；叶柄通常长，海绵质；叶片披针形、箭形或戟形；佛焰苞白色、黄绿色或稀玫瑰红色，管部宿存，上部展开呈漏斗状；花单性，无花被；雄花：雄蕊2－3，花药楔状四棱形，顶孔开裂；雌花：子房1－5室，每室有胚珠4，2列；浆果倒卵圆形或近球形。
