| 牛属 Bos 牛亚科的一属。通称野黄牛。体格大小各异，一般体长2～3米，肩高1.4～2.2米，其中以牛最大，雄性身体比雌性强大；两性均具角，横切面呈圆形；有的种类颈下垂肉发达，有的不明显；雄性上体通常深棕褐色、灰褐色、棕黑色，雌性毛色略浅；腿的下部多白色。共有4种：①犍牛。分布在云南南部及印度、缅甸、泰国、中南半岛与马来半岛。②大额牛。见于印度阿萨姆和缅甸北部。③爪哇牛。产于爪哇、婆罗洲、苏门答腊和缅甸。④森林牛。仅产于柬埔寨。 野黄牛栖息于阔叶林、竹林、稀树草地或丛林中，5～30头结群活动，白天喜在沟谷密林中隐蔽。冬季交配8～9月份产仔，每胎多为1仔。 野黄牛与牛属其他动物交配，可得具有能育性的后代，在科学实验上具有一定的意义。 |
