| 蝗总科 Acridoidea 昆虫纲直翅目的一总科。世界性分布，已知1万余种。中国已知700余种。成虫体中型至大型，较粗壮。头短，头后部缩入前胸内。复眼发达，通常单眼3个。触角较体短，较前足腿节长，丝状、剑状或槌状。前胸背板发达，盖住中胸背板，近马鞍状。后足腿节特发达，胫节较长，在其两侧缘各具刺1列；跗节3节 ，第一跗节的腹面具有3个内垫。多数种类具有2对发达的翅，少数种类为短翅或缺翅。前翅狭长，后翅膜质，常具艳色。尾须较短小，不分节。产卵器粗短。雄虫能以后足与前翅摩擦发音。听器着生在腹部第1节的两侧。
渐变态。卵常有分泌物形成卵囊，卵囊的形状因种类而异。多数种类产卵于土中，以卵越冬，1年发生1～2代。若虫称蝻，外形与成虫近似，通常有5龄。在发育过程中，触角节数的增加与翅芽的增长可作为龄期鉴别的依据。 陆栖性，多数种类为植食性，并且是典型的多食性。嗜食玉米、小麦、粟、黍、水稻、高粱、大麦等禾本科植物，也吃莎草科植物，是农业上的重要害虫。少数种类的形态和行为因生活区内虫口密度的不同而发生变异。在虫口密度小时，它们分散生活，个体间相互没有影响，成为散居型。也不成群迁飞。一般体色较淡。在虫口密度大时，它们互相接触，形成群栖生活，成为群居型。可成群地由发生基地迁飞到远处为害。一般体色较暗。 |
