日本电影剧作家、导演。1925年4月3日生于神户市。1948年考入松竹公司任助理导演，其间开始发表剧本。1954年成为独立的电影剧作家。主要的电影剧本有:《荒城之月》（1954）、《美好的岁月》(1955)、《泉水》(1956)、《黑河》(1957)、《做人的条件》(1959)等。最后一部获《电影旬报》评选的1961年度剧本奖。1961年自编自导了第一部影片《无名，贫困，美丽》，描写一对聋哑夫妻的生活与爱情，被评为日本当年10部优秀影片第5名,并获《每日电影》奖的蓝绶带奖和优秀剧本奖。他的主要剧本还有：《争夺新选手》(1956)、《孩子的眼睛》(1957)、《碧蓝的远空》(1959)、《人的证明》(1977)等。执导的影片主要有《信步而行的故事》(1962)、《虽然我是一粒麦......》(1964)、《冲绳海洋博览会》(1976)等。
