蛭纲颚蛭目山蛭科的 1属。俗称山蚂蟥。体一般中型,背面常有纵纹和斑点。眼5对,位于2、3、4、5、6环或2、3、4、6、9环上。感觉器在体背面6列,在腹面4或6列。肾孔17对,均开口于体侧。肛门区域有耳状突。后吸盘腹面有放射肋。为陆地上主要吸血蚂蟥，危害人和牛、马等家畜。如分布在海南岛的海南山蛭。印度、越南、菲律宾、印尼、马达加斯加均有分布。中国分布于长江以南地区。
