The development status of mining coring, water well drilling, oil and gas drilling, continental scientific drilling, ocean drilling, polar drilling, star drilling, and tunneling, in and out of China, is discussed with emphases.

Problems existing in rock coal core fetch and appraisal in drilling and some suggestions;

The paper discusses the necessity of studying appropriate economic scale of drill workload for geological survey projects, from the aspects of reasonable allocation of resources, effective arrangement of economic activities, and the characteristics of geological survey.

The artificial neural network (ANN) method is used to solve the puzzle that occur in the drilling: the identification of the lithology of the strata drilled.

In the first phase of the water disaster control project,to seal the water inrush gateway and to drain water from the mine were the main operations and meanwhile,the surface drilling exploration,3D seismic,transient electric:method and other comprehensive means were applied to determine the inrush water channel as the hidden sink hole with good water conductivity.
