庆元二中创建于1978年8月，学校占地23886平方米。现有30个初中班，1400多名学生，正式教职工100多人，专职任课教师90余人，专任教师合格率为100%，其中本科学历36人，占40%；专任教师具有中学一级教师职称以上的有44人，占48.9%；高级教师5人，占5.6%；县级以上名师、学科带头人11人。
20多年来，庆元二中始终以“勤业、冶志、求是、进取”为校训，通过几届领导的努力，发展到现在，已经成为庆元县最大的初级中学。学校坚持以“三个面向”和“三个代表”重要思想为指导，全面贯彻国家教育方针，模范执行教育法规和有关政策，全面推进素质教育，全面提高教育质量。近三年来，我校教师在市级以上发表的论文有87篇，编辑的教科论文集10本。担任县级以上课题23个，9项科研成果在市级以上获奖；学生有100多人次在全国、省、市、县竞赛中获奖。县中小学田径运动会和艺术周我校连续多年荣获团体总分第一名。应届毕业生升重点高中比例一直在全县遥遥领先。
