| 锦蛇属 Elaphe 蛇目游蛇科的一属。有50种左右，均无毒。分布于亚洲、欧洲和美洲。中国产16种，各省区都有分布，其中华中、华南和西南地区种类和数量均较多。头椭圆形，与颈区分明显。体长，圆柱形或略侧扁。背鳞平滑或起微棱。眶后鳞一般2枚。栖息于沿海低地及内陆平原、丘陵和山区，在溪流、水稻田、池塘及其附近常见。有的种类生活于山坡或路旁、茶山、玉米地、干燥荒坡、灌丛、坟地及石堆等处。村边甚至住宅内也有发现。地面生活或树栖。多于白天活动。以鱼 、蛙、蝌蚪、蜥蜴、蛇、鸟、鸟蛋、小型哺乳类、软体动物为食。卵生、亦有卵胎生的种类。有几种锦蛇经济价值较大 。百花锦蛇、黑眉锦蛇、三索锦蛇是食用蛇种。它们分别与三蛇和滑鼠蛇合称五蛇。胆可入药，治风湿关节痛、神经衰弱、消化不良等症。整体去内脏泡酒，具有祛风除湿、舒筋活络的功效。
