白山位于石川县和岐阜县交界处，属于白山国立公园的一部分。白山本峰是由于火山活动所形成的山，有翠池、千蛇池等7个高山湖和雪溪、姥瀑等有名的瀑布，以及高山植物和山毛榉林等，在山上还能观赏优美的火山景观。
白山同时也是登山爱好者偏爱的山。和富士山、立山一起被列为日本三大名山，来此登山的人很多。在山麓有中宫、岩间等5个温泉所组成的温泉乡。可随意利用的温泉在各处也时常能碰见，来登山的人们都喜欢在这里泡一泡温泉。
连接石川县和岐阜县的白山超级林道，总长33.3公里，沿路有落差86米的雄伟的大瀑布──福部大瀑布，时而用其飞溅的水花打湿道路。另外有山毛榉原始林的树海和最适宜眺望白山的标高1300米的了望台，这些都吸引了很多游客。
