可能是依赖HBV才能复制的缺损病毒颗粒，直径35～37nm，核心为低分子RNA，外有HBsAg包膜。主要存在于表面抗原阳性者的肝细胞核内；而delta抗体，则出现于血液中。血清中delta因子阳性或delta抗体阳转，表明有HBV抗原及delta因子的二重感染。
