会马坡位于宜昌市远安县城西北18.5公里的汉峪沟中游地段。古时，这里山高谷深，地势险要，是荆襄直通蜀秦的咽喉。三国时期，蜀将关羽大意失荆州，败走麦城，欲取道罗汉峪沟，向西北突围，退回蜀汉。当关羽人马行至罗汉峪中的一个三岔路口时，发觉吴兵在此设下埋伏。他正准备回马寻路，却已晚矣。赤兔马已被吴兵的绊马索绊倒，关羽也束手就擒。回马坡因此而得名。回马坡所在的罗汉峪沟长约15公里，沟中溪水长流，清澈见底，飞泉漱玉，绿潭回旋；两旁峻崖峭壁，树木葱郁，葛藤缠绕，掩映幽洞。在回马坡脚下小溪里的石岩上，留下了几个清晰的马踢印，人称“马踢滩”。相传是赤兔马被绊倒后，在溪流中挣扎时踏出来的。马踢滩中还有几处呈赭红色的石头，传说是赤兔马受伤后流血染成的。后人为了纪念关公，于清同治七年（公元1868年）在此建立了一座3层、6边形的石亭，亭下立有一石碑，上刻“呜呼，此乃关圣帝君由临沮入蜀遇吴回马处也”。后亭和碑全毁。1982年，又在原处重建了回马坡纪念亭，高8米，共两层，八角形，内径四米，上盖黄绿相间的琉璃瓦。亭中立一石碑，正面碑文与清代的相同，后面为刻线关公骑马像，碑帽两面均雕饰有二龙戏珠图案。游人来到远安，游览了回马坡后，还可观赏打湿溪、瞄日岗、晒旗、呼儿山、关兴坡、拖刀石等三国胜迹。
