延迟交货是指卖方没有严格按照合同所规定的时间完成交货任务，而是在合同规定的交货期后一段时间才履行交货义务。
虽然卖方已经完成了他的交货任务，只是交货时间往后推迟，但有时如货物价格波动幅度较大时，会给买方带来比较严重的损失。因此在实际业务中，卖方不按时交货，特别是延迟交货为一种常见的违约形式。
