兼业农户以从事农业生产为主，把主要劳力、时间、资金投人农业生产的同时，兼营农副产品加工或其他工业、运输业和商饮业等.并取得相当收入的一种生产经营方式。兼业农户大多数是在农村实行家庭联产承包责任制以后，有了经营自主权，根据其自身条件开辟生产经营领域.兼营一些投资少、技术操作比较简单、资金周转快、经济效益好的工副业项目兼业农户一般需要具备以下条件:生产的产品和服务有一定市场需求;拥有一定的资源、劳力和资金;从事经营者有一定的文化、技术和管理水平以农为主兼营其他各业的形式多种多样，如兼营工业的主要形式有:家庭户主经营工业，其余劳力从事农业;自主既经营农业又从事工业;户主及其他家庭成员农忙时务农.农闲时务工等。兼业农户的标准一般是主要劳力在农忙季节从事农业生产，其余时间从事工业、运输业和商业等:农业收人占其家霆岔女入的孔丫以上;按政策规定完成国家交售农产品的任务和集体提留。这种经营方式的农户，有的随着工业经营的相对集中、经营管理水平的提高和积累的增加，形成种植业专业大户;有的在一定条件下转化为务工专业户、务商专业户和运输专业户等。
