   压缩机种类繁多。按其工作原理分为两大类:①容积式压缩机。靠在气缸内作往复或回转运动的活塞,使气缸内的气体体积减小,压力升高,然后把气体压出。又可分为回转压缩机和往复压缩机等。回转压缩机是靠各种起活塞作用的转子在气缸内作回转运动而使气体体积发生变化来压缩和输送气体;往复压缩机是靠活塞或隔膜在气缸内作往复运动使气体体积发生变化来压缩和输送气体。②速度式压缩机。气体在高速旋转叶轮的作用下,得到巨大的动能,而后在扩压器中急剧降速,从而使气体的动能转变为势能,借以提高气体的压力;又可分为轴流式、离心式和混流式等种类。根据排气压力大小的不同,压缩机可分为:①低压压缩机。其排气压力在19.6×104~9.8×105帕之间,主要用作石油、化工、冶金、机械加工、采矿、建筑等部门的动力源。②中压压缩机。其排气压力在9.8×105~9.8×106帕之间,主要用于石化工业,如作为裂解气、甲烷、乙烯、丙烯、氢气等的各种压缩机,以及冷冻用的氨压缩机等。③高压压缩机,其排气压力在9.8×106~9.8×107帕之间,主要用于尿素工业的二氧化碳压缩机、合成氨工业的氢氮气压缩机、空气分离的氧气和空气压缩机以及合成甲醇的原料气压缩机等。
