浅色的岩脉物质与暗色的残留基体部分之间,呈条带状互层,两类条带的宽窄变化及其相对含量不定,但一般基体仍占主导地位(>50%)。条带状混合岩通常基体为片理发育的各种片岩(特别是云母片岩)或暗色片麻岩类,脉体物质以粉红色或灰白色花岗质为主,它们基本平行片理分布与暗色的基体成条带状互层,一般情况下,脉体厚度较稳定,并可延伸很远,但当基体为片理不佳的角闪质岩石时,脉体厚度的变化常很迅速,斜切片理的现象也较多。一般情况下,脉体和基体界线明显,但由于交代作用,有时在脉体边缘可出现由较大的黑云母所组成的薄片,甚至在基体脉体间出现类似片麻岩的过渡带。由于混合岩化同时或紧随其后的构造运动,本类岩石可出现复杂的形态变化,如出现形态多变的揉皱等。对本类岩石,研究时应注意观察:基体和脉体的矿物成分、结构、不同条带的比例、宽窄、延长方向、基体和脉体的相互接触关系以及基体和脉体接触带的交代作用和基体本身的变化等。
