位于韩国庆尚南道和全罗南北道交界处，方圆439平方公里，是韩国第二高峰，以主峰天王峰为首的十余座高峰形成了一个气势雄伟的景观。智异山动植物资源十分丰富，随着海拔高度的升高，这里有亚热带竹林、北温带阔叶林、亚寒带植物和高山草本植物等。智异山寺庙很多，有华严寺、泉隐寺、大安寺、道林寺等。智异山国立公园入口处有一座城镇叫“南原”，是韩国著名古典小说《春香传》中所描写的地方，男女主人公李梦龙和春香曾在南原广寒楼私订终身。现在南原城中仍保留着重建的广寒楼和春香祠堂。
