| 红柱石 andalusite 成分组成为Al2〔SiO4〕O的岛状结构硅酸盐矿物。与蓝晶石、矽线石成同质多象。正交（斜方）晶系，晶体常呈柱状，横断面接近四方形。有些红柱石在生长过程中俘获部分碳质和粘土矿物，在晶体内定向排列，在横断面上呈十字形，称空晶石。集合体多呈放射状或粒状。粉红、玫瑰红、红褐色或灰白色。玻璃光泽，柱面解理中等，莫氏硬度6.5～7.5，比重3.15～3.16。常见于泥质 岩和侵入体的接触带 ，是典型的接触热变质矿物。中国北京西山盛产放射状红柱石，俗称菊花石。产地有西班牙安达卢西亚，奥地利蒂罗尔州，巴西米纳斯吉拉斯等。加热至1300℃红柱石变为莫来石，是高级耐火材料。淡红色或绿色透明的晶体可作宝石。空晶石因在粉红、灰白的底色上衬托有黑十字，常被加工成工艺装饰品。
