mei de diz加niall(lai 煤的地质年代(geol呼eal ages诚coal) 指煤层形成的年代。它可根据含煤地层中的古生物化 石特征和成煤植物特征，采用放射性同位素测定法和 煤层、地层对比法等确定。附表为参照1989年国际地 质科学联合会(ICS)的地球地层表列出的煤的地质年 代表。表中给出了煤的年龄值、相应的生物演化过程、 形成的主要煤种以及中国主要成煤期。煤的生成受植 物演化、古气候、古地理、古地壳构造运动诸因素制 约。繁茂的植物、温暖潮湿的气候、低洼平坦的地形 煤的地质年代表于以及缓慢下沉的地壳运动对成煤有利。在晚古生代的石炭纪和二叠纪、中生代的侏罗纪和白里纪、新生代中的第三纪均具备上述成煤条件，是世界重要成煤期。而石炭纪和二叠纪、侏罗纪和第三纪则是中国重要成煤期。在元古代地层中发现有菌藻植物形成的煤，这种煤在中国南方的早古生代地层中分布较广，称为石煤，有一定的利用价值。石炭纪和二叠纪成煤的主要煤种是烟煤，其次是无烟煤。在此时期，中国南北方都有重要煤层生成，特别是北方的石炭纪和二叠纪煤田是中国重要的炼焦用煤基地。侏罗纪成煤的煤种主要是揭煤和低煤化度烟煤，也有中煤化度烟煤，常含有厚煤层或巨厚煤层。第三纪成煤的主要煤种是褐煤和长焰煤。
