中国人民解放军进军福建部队某团第 8连，解放大练岛战斗中的英雄集体。1949年 8月福州解放后，国民党军第73军一部和74军残部万余人逃到平潭岛。大练岛位于平潭外围，有一个营驻守。9月,中国人民解放军进军福建部队攻打平潭，该连所在营奉命主攻大练岛。13日晚 9时，全连分乘木帆船冒着大风直驶大练岛。连长刘玉瑞带着 2班和炮班冲在最前面，大部分战士和船工相继伤亡。连长用腿掌舵，端着机枪扫射，带领 6名战士首先登陆。此时，平潭岛国民党守军急调第 714团增援大练岛。根据敌情变化，该连大胆穿插，在兄弟连队配合下，14日拂晓前攻占西部高地，歼灭一个营。尔后，继续追歼，迫使 800多名国民党军官兵放下武器，取得了大练岛战斗的胜利，对解放平潭起了重要作用。1950年 4月13日，中国共产党第三野战军前委授予该连"大练岛连"称号。
