榆树 Ulmus;elm 榆科榆属植物的通称。全属约40余种,主产北温带。中国有24种,分布几遍全国,如北方有白榆、黑榆、大果榆等;南方有台湾榆、多脉榆等;西南有昆明榆、小果榆等。在榆属植物中,以白榆在造林上最重要。白榆为落叶乔木,高达25米。叶椭圆状卵形或椭圆状披针形,具不规则复锯齿及单锯齿,无毛或叶下面脉腋微有簇生柔毛。花簇生。果近圆形或倒卵状圆形,熟时黄白色,果核周围具薄翅(见图)。主要分布在东北、西北、华北、华东等地,多生于海拔1000米以下河流两岸、山麓和田边。喜光。对气候适应性强,在寒温带、温带及亚热带地区均能生长。对土壤要求不严,但以深厚肥沃、湿润、排水良好的砂壤土、轻壤土生长最好。深根性,生长迅速。抗城市污染能力强,尤其对氟化氢及烟尘有较强的抗性。白榆可用种子育苗。苗圃宜经常保持湿润。2~3年苗木出圃造林。白榆木材耐磨、耐腐,是造船、建筑、室内装修地板、家具的优良用材。树皮纤维强韧,可作人造棉和造纸原料。叶含淀粉及蛋白质,可作饲料。皮、叶、果可入药,种子可榨油,是医药和化工原料。
