藏品在库房中的排列和定位方法。是便于提取、归还、检查、核对藏品的重要措施之一。藏品入库后，排架应在分类、分库的基础上进行，并且要先规划好各类藏品库房内柜架的位置布局，编排好柜架顺序号码和每个柜架内部格层的层次号码或抽屉号码。藏品排架有以下几种方式：①按各类藏品入藏时间先后的编号，小号在前，大号在后。②按藏品的器形、年代或类别分别排架,每类之后都要留出一定的空位,以备存放新进的藏品，这种办法适用于库房和柜架设备充足的博物馆。③对于一级藏品、经济价值很高的藏品及保密性藏品，应从各类藏品中提出，另设专库或另行排架，对不宜分开的成组藏品可集中排架。④自然标本应根据浸制、干制等制作方法的不同及产地、自然区划的不同，按国际通用的门、纲、目、科、属、种系统分类法进行排架。
藏品排架定位之后,要把该件藏品所存放的库别、柜架号和柜架层格号回注在该件藏品卡片或藏品目录索引册的备注栏内，使存放位置和藏品联系起来。藏品数量多的可单独建立藏品方位卡片或藏品方位索引。有条件的，还可将藏品存放方位，编成电脑程序储存，以便迅速检索出该件藏品和存放位置。
为便于保管人员掌握库内藏品排架情况和存放位置，可绘制库内柜架布局平面图，注明藏品类别和柜架的编号,并分别制出每个柜架层次的指引卡。在排架中,为确保藏品安全和有效地利用库房空间，对柜架的结构、高度、藏品的囊盒、包装、容器等保护措施也应做出妥善安排。
