刊载控制论、自动控制理论、自动化仪表和自动化应用方面研究成果的定期连续出版物。世界上最早的自动化期刊是苏联科学院自动学远动学研究所于1936年出版的《Автоматика и телемеханика》(自动学与远动学)。50年代以来,由于控制论的诞生和电子计算机的广泛应用,自动控制理论和自动化技术得到迅速发展,自动化期刊的品种也不断增加。自动化期刊按出版的形式和内容,大致可分为以下三类：①学术性期刊,②自动化情报和普及类期刊,③自动化文摘和索引类刊物。表1列出了中国出版的自动化期刊。表2列出了世界各国出版的重要自动化期刊。
