This paper introduces the essential theroy of XML Web Services, and realizes a C practice system by making use of this technology.

The content of geospatial metadata is studied from different aspects: geospatial metadata consist of information that describe both a data set itself and the relation among different data sets; geospatial metadata are classified as standard metadata, common metadata and user-defined metadata according to their normative degree; and the method of representing geospatial metadata by XML is analyzed.
