平装本的一种形式， 又称毛装本。 书芯经过折页、订书、包本等工序后，三面不加裁切，使书边不齐，保留它的自然朴素之美， 让读者在阅读时自己裁开， 更能增加读者对书籍的亲切之感。毛边本一般是三面不切，有时为了读者的方便只切开一面。这样，既保持了毛边本的特殊风格，又兼顾到读者自己裁开的方便。这种装订形式常见于国外出版的页数不多的文艺书籍，可以节省装订工作中的最后一道工序──切书，有利于书籍的迅速出版，鲁迅在30年代也曾提倡过。但是，毛边本所选用的正文纸张要坚实一些，否则，毛边容易裂口，会影响书页的完整。
