以军队标号和文字将军事情况标绘在地图上的作业。通过标图能把复杂的军事情况简明地显示在地图上。广泛用于军队指挥、军事训练和学术研究。指挥员和参谋人员在准备和实施作战任务中，通常要标绘敌我情况图、首长决心图、作战计划图、协同动作计划图、工作图、行军路线图、作战经过图等。标绘内容一般有：双方兵力部署、阵地编成、作战决心以及作战经过等。标图作业，依据文字材料或口述情况,采用规定的军队标号,结合地形进行。通常先标战斗分界线，然后按先敌方后己方、先本部后友邻、先前沿后纵深、先主要方向后次要方向、先队标后队号的顺序标绘。如果情况过于复杂，标号发生重叠时，应保留重要情况，舍去次要情况，或互相避让。临时增补的标号要附以图例说明。标号不易表达的事项应编写附记。标图要求迅速及时，突出主题，清晰易读，正确反映客观实际。
