川剧演员，工丑。原名兴文。四川隆昌县人。出身于贫苦农家，自幼入川戏班学艺。16岁又入资阳大名班附设的三字科班深造，受业于岳春、萧遐亭、罗开堂等名角，先习武生，后改学丑。演戏认真、踏实、不尚卖弄。每演一戏，必先对剧本主题、人物性格做透彻了解。善于随处留心，观察揣摩世态人情，提炼入戏，并能借鉴京、汉等剧种长处，补己之短。身怀绝技，不废基功，直到80多岁高龄，还能演出《扯符吊打》、《毛延寿奔番》等功夫戏。活跃于川剧舞台70多年，以其精湛的表演技艺,塑造了不少纨袴子弟、赃官、暴君的形象。1918年，在重庆发起创办裕民科社，热情教授艺徒，对川剧艺术事业作出了贡献。刘成基、周裕祥、李文杰等均受其教益。
