变式(variation)在概念教学中向学生提供直观材料的一种方式。它要求在向学生呈示直观材料时,交替变换所提出的材料的形式,以便使其本质属性保持不变,而使其非本质属性发生变异。例如,为使学生形成“果实”这一概念,在提供的直观材料中,除了都具有种子这一本质特征外,其非本质属性如果实的形、色、味、可食与否等方面则应不同。通过这样的变式,可以突出其本质属性,舍弃其非本质属性,有助于形成正确的概念。在概念教学中如果缺乏变式或变式运用得不适当,就有可能造成扩大或缩小概念内涵的错误,使学生对概念产生错误的理解,如认为“果实是可以吃的”。在变式中,提供典型的直观材料具有重要意义。
