【1984年保险公司隶属关系调整】1983年9月，国务院《关于中国人民银行行使中央银行职能的决定》中，规定中国人民保险公司与其他专业银行一样，作为国务院局级的经济实体，在国家规定的业务范围内，依照法律、法令、政策、计划，独立行使职权，充分发挥各自的作用。各级分支机构基本上均由保险总公司垂直领导。按照这个规定，中国人民保险公司从1984年1月1日起从中国人民银行分离出来，单独作为国务院直属局级经济实体。各省市保险公司也被批准为局级单位。
