2000年8月31日，新闻出版署和教育部共同组织第三届全国优秀教育音像制品奖评选揭晓，共有156种优秀教育音像制品获奖。9月20日，第三届全国优秀教育音像制品奖颁奖大会在北京举行。中宣部、新闻出版署和教育部有关部门领导同志莅会，并向获奖单位颁奖。
本届评选活动共有88个音像出版单位的324种音像制品参评，参评单位和参评制品的数量均超过了上两届。经过申报、资格认定、专家评审三个阶段的工作，最终评出156种获奖制品，占参评制品总数的48.15%。其中，一等奖12种，二等奖40种，三等奖99种，优秀选题奖5种。为保证评审结果的公正性，本届评奖活动增设了为期一个月的异议期。评审结果于2000年8月1日分别在《新闻出版报》和《中国教育报》上进行了预公告。异议期内没有单位和个人对评审结果提出异议，评审结果经新闻出版署和教育部审核批准，并于8月31日发文公布(新出联〔2000〕28号)。
