北京时间3月２９日零时９分，印度尼西亚苏门答腊岛附近海域发生８．５级强烈地震。值得庆幸的是，这次海底大地震没有引发大海啸。那么，大海啸的发生与海底地震究竟是什么关系呢？ 海啸是一种具有强大破坏力的海浪，它掀起的惊涛骇浪高度可达十多米甚至数十米，犹如一堵“水墙”。这种“水墙”内含有极大能量，如果冲上陆地，往往对人类生命和财产造成严重威胁。另外，海啸波长很长，可以传播几千公里而能量损失却很小。 正因为能量大、波及范围广，因此海啸的杀伤力是巨大的。去年１２月２６日，印尼苏门答腊岛附近海域发生大地震，并引发了大海啸，造成印度洋沿岸国家２０多万人死亡。 海啸通常由风暴潮、火山喷发、水下坍塌滑坡和海底地震等引发。其中，海底地震是海啸发生的最主要原因，历史上特大海啸基本上都是海底地震引起的。不过，海底地震未必一定就会引发大海啸。统计材料显示，在１．５万次海底构造地震中，大约只有１００次能够引发海啸。 地震海啸的产生，一般受海底地震震源断层、震源区水深条件、震级、震源深度等条件控制。比如，震源位于深水区比浅水区更易于产生海啸。当震源断层表现为平行错动时不会产生海啸，如果震源断层表现为倾滑，就可能引起海啸。 此次发生８.５级地震而没有像去年年末的大地震一样引发巨大海啸，日本和美国的专家认为其中至少有三个原因： 一是断层破裂的方向和上次不同。海啸的前进方向往往与断层破裂方向垂直。去年底的印度洋大海啸，断层破裂由南向北，海啸则向东和西两个方向冲去。专家推测，这次地震断层破裂方向由西北向东南，因此海啸向东北和西南方向冲去，上次受害严重的地区这次只有很小的海啸。 二是地震震源处海水浅，因地震而涌动的海水量少。从出现断层的角度来看，震源水域的海水浅，海底平面上下变动小，涌动的海水少，这也可能是没有发生大海啸的原因之一。 三是地震释放的能量下降。根据美国的观测，这次地震为８.７级，释放的能量是上次地震的三分之一；而日本气象厅观测结果为８.５级，释放能量仅是上次地震的六分之一。 多数科学家认为，3月29日的这次地震是去年１２月２６日引发大海啸地震的“后遗症”。在俯冲断层地震中，断层一侧板块应力的释放，会引起另一侧板块应力和能量的积累，到一定程度就会释放并引起新一轮地震。这也可以解释为什么近期位于两大地质板块交界处的苏门答腊岛附近地区地震不断。实际上，一些科学家早在３月１７日出版的英国《自然》杂志上就发表论文预言，该地区还会发生大地震。 但也有一部分科学家说，这次地震的强度不是一般余震可以比拟的，因而有可能是新一轮板块“大冲撞”的表现。美国加州理工学院地质学教授凯利·西说，无论如何，这表明两大板块的冲撞仍然有足够的能量引起大地震甚至大海啸，加强预警才是应对之道。 摘自《中国海洋报》第1397期
