壮医药学院是广西中医学院挖掘、整理、研究和继承壮医药优秀遗产及培养壮医药高级专门人才的教学、科研基地。壮医药系是在广西中医学院壮医药研究所、壮医药教研室的基础上于2005年4月正式成立，并于2005年10月正式改名为壮医药学院。壮医药学院现有专兼职教师30余人、教研室5个、标本馆2个、资料室1个 。
广西中医学院自1985年开始招收中国医学史壮医方向硕士研究生 ，2002年开始招收中医学壮医方向五年制本科生，壮医药学院的成立标志着壮医药高等教育和人才培养进入了新的发展阶段，必将为祖国民族医药的振兴和发展作出应有的贡献。
近二十年来，广西中医学院壮医药学院有计划地对壮医药进行整理研究，先后编写专著10余部，壮医药学院专家出版的壮医药专著和学术成就主要有：黄汉儒主编的《壮族医学史》填补了壮医史研究的空白，《中国壮医学》奠定了壮医学的理论基础；黄瑾明主编的《壮医药线点灸疗法》、《壮医药线点灸临床治验录》是全国最早的壮医教材；朱华等人编著、王乃平主审的《中国壮药原色图谱》、《常用壮药生药学质量标准研究》、《中国壮药志》（第一卷）首次提出了壮药范畴和壮药生药质量标准体系等等。
