外五泾弄近代住宅位于阊门内下塘街外五泾弄6号，1991年被列为苏州市文物保护单位。
这处住宅原为谢氏别墅，建于1936年至1938年，连同庭园占地3500平方米，建筑面积1110．79平方米，为一幢两层砖木混合结构西式建筑。坐北朝南，正门东向，门前有停车台。南面设廊，内为客厅，通间落地长窗，外有露台高0．4米，前砌石阶踏道。楼房立面以现代建筑简洁平直线条为主，墙面采用粉色瓷砖贴面装饰，外廊为磨光石子地面，屋面坡度较大，以绿色琉璃瓦覆盖。室内装修精致，设有客厅、书房、寝室、卫生间等，建筑设施功能齐全。楼层与底层布局大致相仿。楼南庭园草坪中心植有高大雪松四棵，亭亭如盖，四周铺筑小径，配植花木，围以漏窗花墙，给人以平静安逸的感觉。
此楼曾于1945年修过一次，50年代初由妇幼保健站购得，后归阊门饭店。近年作过一次维修，结构未动，内装修稍有改变，现状良好。
