英国电影演员。原名威廉·米契尔。祖籍澳大利亚。1916年9月28日生于伦敦，1977年1月14日卒于美国洛杉矶。10岁时回到澳大利亚，世界经济大萧条中，他四处漂泊,最后当了杂耍班子里滑稽演员的配角。1935年,他开始在正式大剧院演出；次年，他参加拍片，并组织自己的班底登台演出。因为他有好的嗓音，成了澳大利亚广播剧的主要演员。1949年，他到伦敦随L.奥立弗学艺，立即在英国舞台和银幕上显出他的才华。50年代中期，他以明星身份出现在银幕上。芬奇身材健壮英俊，有副久经风霜的外貌，又透露出性格机敏和热情，所以能胜任精明强悍的各种角色。他主演的影片《艾丽丝小镇》(1956)、《王尔德受审记》(1960)、《绝情于约翰尼》(1961)、《星期天，血腥的星期天》(1971)和《电视台风云》(1977)，曾 5次获得英国电影学院授予的最佳男演员奖，在《电视台风云》中扮演发疯的新闻广播员一角，演技精湛，被追授奥斯卡最佳男主角奖。
