Methods A genetic epidemiological case-control study with 489 pedigrees(esophageal cancer 132, gastric cancer 79, liver cancer 80 and 198 controls) was carried out to estimate the segregation ratio and hereditability (h 2) of esophageal cancer,gastric cancer and liver cancer by the methods of Li-Mantel-Gart and Falconer, respectively.
