蓟县中上元古界国家级自然保护区
位于天津市蓟县境内，面积900公顷，1984年经国务院批准建立，主要保护对象为中上元古界标准剖面，是我国第一个国家级地质剖面自然保护区。
中上元古界剖面展布在山峦重叠的燕山南脉，以岩层齐全、出露连续、保存完好、质地清楚、构造简单、变质极浅和古生物化石丰富闻名于世，并被确定为中国中上元古界的标准剖面。剖面地层总厚度达9197米，记载着距今18.5亿年至8亿年间的地质演化史，在岩层中，有生命早期阶段的宏观藻类植物，并在距今14 – 12亿年的岩层中，发现了世界罕见的微生物群，大大提前了此种微生物的出现年代，具有重要的科学价值。
