沉默子(silencer)是参与基因表达负调控的一种元件，是在研究t淋巴细胞的t抗原受体(tcr)基因表达调控时发现的。tcr有α/β、γ/δ两种，编码α链和δ链是同一基因座的两个等位基因，α链恒定区ca基因3’端下游的。增强子在各种t细胞中都有可能表达。因此，在t细胞分化时，需要通过各种正负调控机制进行精确的选择，方能正确地表达。已知有3个负调控元件，一个紧接在ca基因的3’下游，另一个则在co增强子的上游。对α基因专一的沉默子的作用是阻止ja基因在γ／δ型 t 细胞中参与重排，使 ja 基因只参与α/β型t细胞中的重排。这说明α沉默子对在α和δ两个等位基因中选择。等位基因的转录和重排时起作用，而使δ等位基因沉默。这些负调控元件不受距离和取向的限制。
