乌兰布统旅游区位于赤峰市克旗西南部，距北京、承德、赤峰的距离分别为450、260、300公里，包括乌兰布统草原，乌兰布统古战场，桦木沟林区三个景区，是一个集山、水、花、草、林，古迹于一体的旅游区。草原一望无际，林场松涛滚滚，小河淙淙流淌，清康熙帝大战噶尔丹的点将台、十二座连营等古迹依稀可见，41座蒙古包群呈八字形排例，造型别致，笑迎八方游客。冬季银装素裹，积雪平均300mm，积雪期长达五个月，是滑雪爱好者的乐园。乌兰布统古战场，位于境西南浑善达克沙漠南缘。在沙漠与草原接壤处，一峰突起，旷世极天。康熙以20万大军遏噶尔丹大战于此。乌兰布统峰东北，沙明如雪，白桦、红柳似翠如丹。峰西南，鸟兰公河绕山而过。峰前将军泡子（清大将军佟国纲战死于此）广约千亩。东至塞罕坝为著名坝上草原，十二座连营、点将台亦在其间。乌兰布统旅游开发区现辟有乌兰布统古战场、影视外景地、五彩山、象群山、夹皮沟等8个旅游景区。
