草地畜牧业利用草地直接放牧牲畜，或将草地作为饲草XlJ割地以饲养牲畜的畜牧业。草地畜牧业的基本生产资料在北方是草原，在南方是草山草坡。中国草地畜牧业多集中在少数民族聚居的内蒙古、新疆、青海、西藏和甘肃、宁夏、四川的部分地区，主要采取放牧方式饲养牲畜。草地畜牧业的优势是:①草原面积广阔.全国4亿公顷草地总面积中，有可利用的草原2.24亿公顷，占70.4%，具有很大的发展潜力②草原的光、热、水、气条件一般较好，草原的日照时数多数在3 000小时左右，且水热同期。降水量一部分地区可达250一400毫米，部分地区虽在250毫米以下，但在西部草原区内.有终年冰雪覆盖的阿尔泰山、天山、祁连山、喜马拉雅山等天然“固体水库”，夏季冰雪消融外流，形成了许多可供牲畜饮用和灌溉草原的河流，为牧草的生长和畜牧业的发展提供了十分有利的条件。③草原上天然稳定的植物种类比较丰富，约有3 000多种。由于多数天然牧草稳定，适应性强，能在当地滋生，其中许多优良品种产草量高、营养价值大、牲畜适口性好，为各种不同牲畜的生长发育提供了丰富的词草资源。南方有可利用的草山草坡。.48亿公顷.其中地处川、鄂、湘、黔、滇等省边远山区的。.33亿公顷草山，具有发展绵羊、山羊、肉牛等草食牲畜的很大潜力，是第二大草地畜牧业基地.有待开发利用。但是.北方草原有1/3左右处于海拔3 000米左右的高寒地区，还有部分地区常年干旱.降水量少，风沙危害严重。由于生产手段落后.草原缺乏建设，乱开垦、抢牧、乱牧，使草原沙化退化日益严重，产草量严重下降，一般比20世纪5。年代下降30%一50%。草地生产力低下，缺乏抗灾能力改善草地畜牧业的途径与措施主要有:①立草为业，治理改良草地.扩大人工种草面积，实行以草定畜。之建设牲畜棚圈，改善生产条件。瑟加强为草地畜牧业服务的社会化服务体系建设。④改革不合理的流通体制，改进经营管理，提高经济效益。⑤以法治草，切实贯彻实施《中华人民共和国草原法》及各项管理条例。⑥实行多渠道集资，增加草地畜牧业建设的投入。
