| 灯蛾 Arctiidae；tiger moths 鳞翅目灯蛾科的通称。全世界有4000余种，多分布于热带和亚热带地区 。一般小至中型 ，少数大型。体色较鲜艳，通常具红色或黄色斑纹 ，有些种类为白底黑纹 ，形如虎斑。成虫休息时将翅折叠成屋脊状，多在夜间活动，趋光性较强，如遇干扰，能分泌黄色腐蚀性刺鼻的臭油汁，有些种类甚至能发出爆裂声以驱避敌害。幼虫具长而密的毛簇，体色常为黑色或褐色 。腹足 5 对 ， 除苔蛾幼虫多以地衣苔藓为食外，绝大多数灯蛾幼虫为多食性。比较重要的灯蛾有为害玉米、 谷子、高粱、 棉花等的红缘灯蛾、尘污灯蛾 ；为害桑、茶、柑橘等的人纹污灯蛾、黑条灰灯蛾、八点灰灯蛾；为害森林的花布灯蛾、褐点粉灯蛾；为害绿肥作物的纹散灯蛾等。美国白蛾是重要的植物检疫对象。
