描述Frankeniaceae瓣鳞花科，双子叶植物，4属，90种，分布于热带和温带地区，我国有1属，1种，分布于新疆和甘肃。草本或小灌木；叶对生，无托外，通常小；花辐射对称，两性，小，单生或排成聚伞花序；萼片4－7，合生，宿存；花瓣与萼片同数，里面有一鳞片状的附属体，覆瓦状排列；雄蕊通常6，分离或于基部合生，花药2室；子房上位，1室，有2－4个侧膜胎座；胚珠极多数；花柱单生；蒴果包藏于宿萼内，瓣裂。
