旅游农业应该是围绕旅游办农业。也就是说，它是为旅游提供产品和服务的。它的生产特点应是生态性的，以保护生态平衡作前提；它的产品特点应是民族性的，以弘扬传统文化为卖点；它的经营定位应是服务性的，以游客需要定模式。自然、传统，是旅游的目标，也正是我国广大农村地区最大的特点。这一特点，从发展现代农业的角度讲不算优势，但要发展旅游农业，它就成了我国广大农村地区的共同的区域优势。
