为禾本科植物黑穗画眉草的带根全草。
【植物形态】
黑穗画眉草 多年生草本，高30～50厘米。秆丛生，直立或基部稍倾斜，基部压扁状。叶片线形，长10～25厘米，宽3～5毫米，常内卷，先端长渐尖；叶鞘扁平，鞘口具白色柔毛；叶舌截平。圆锥状花序开展，长15～18厘米，分枝近于轮生或单生，多曲折；小穗柄细弱，小穗黑色，小花3～8朵；颖披针形，先端渐尖，具脉；外稃卵状长圆形，排列较疏松，内稃稍短于外稃，常宿存，先端截平；花药黄色。花果期4～9月。 生长于山坡草地。分布云南、贵州、四川、甘肃等地。
【采集】
夏、秋采收。
【性味】
味甘，性平。
【功用主治】
清热，止咳，镇痛。
【选方】
①治百日咳：㈠露水草五钱，大蒜三瓣，桔梗二钱。煨水服。㈡露水草根，烘干研末，每次五分至一钱，用姜糖水吞服。 ②治急性腹痛(露水痧)：露水草根三钱。生嚼吃或煨水服。
