见于绿藻、硅藻、接合藻、褐藻、红藻等一些藻类的叶绿体中。据认为与淀粉的形成和贮藏有关。在蓝藻和轮藻中不含淀粉核。它是存在于叶绿体基质中的大块蛋白质(0.5-1微米),在多数情况下,类囊体从两端或四面伸入其中,并有许多淀粉粒包围。有时也有从叶绿体表面伸出瘤状物的例子〔如萱藻属(scytosiphon)和绳藻属(chorda)等〕。某种苔藓植物〔角苔(anthocerus)等〕也具有这种核。淀粉核有时也称为核状体。
