绿洲农业分布于千旱荒漠地区有水源灌溉的地方的农业。又称绿洲灌溉农业和沃洲农业。有新老之分。老绿洲农业一般分布于干旱荒漠地区河、湖沿岸，山麓地带与冲积扇等地下水出露的地方。新绿洲农业是随着社会生产力发展和水利条件的改善，在干旱荒漠地区宜农资源较丰富，开发利用条件较优越的地方一开辟的新垦区世界绿洲农仲主要分布于西亚、美国的中西部地区、俄罗斯的中亚地区、非洲的撒哈拉及北非地区、中国的新疆和甘肃河西走廊等地区。各绿洲的大小不一，多呈孤岛状、带状或串珠状分布。主要种植小麦、玉米、棉花、瓜果等旱作物及少量水稻，并植树造林和建设农村聚落，为干旱荒漠地区农牧业生产发达和人口集中的地方。例如，中国新疆的绿洲占新疆土地总面积的3.57%，却居住着新疆95%的人口，是农、林、牧、渔生产基地和发展工业的支柱。
