中型个体，成虫体长一般为]50-280毫米·宽为5
-6毫米。休细长而圆，表面角质膜稍透明，隐约可见
许多细横纹。口腔为不规则的三角形,前端具三片唇，
排列如 "品"字。其背唇上有两个乳突，腹唇上则具一
个乳突。肛门近尾端腹面。体呈淡粉色。
成虫寄生于人体的小肠内。雌、雄异体交配后，受
精卵自雌生殖孔排出，垂条雌虫每天可平均产卵20万个。
虫卵随粪便排出人体外、两个星期内可发育为胚胎卵，
如若被人吞食，即会被感染;几小时内在十二指肠中孵
出幼虫，幼虫经过肠壁、肝脏、肺部、气管、喉头的会
厌而最后到小肠,发育为成虫。成虫寿命为1-2年。
人体感染后即可患蛔虫病，严重者可引起肠梗阻。
