斑林狸为典型喜湿热的林栖兽类，多于夜间在林缘、灌木和高草丛下单独活动。善爬树，在地面、树上均可捕食。食物为鼠类、鸟、蛙和昆虫，有时也到村寨盗食家禽。每年4～5月份产仔。目前数量已十分稀少。
