鞘翅目锹形虫科，为完全变态昆虫，生活史需经卵、幼虫、蛹及成虫四个阶段。幼虫以朽木为食，成虫夜晚具趋光性，体色为黄褐色，前胸背版两侧具有一个明显的深色圆斑，雄虫体长约2.5至7公分，雌虫体长约2至3.5公分，分佈於中低海拔山区，雄虫个体差异颇大，便适时宜多注意。
