邦溪坡鹿自然保护区位于白沙黎族自治县境内邦溪镇,建立于1976年10月,面积357.8公顷,海拔127-170米之间。距县城牙叉镇约53公里,距海南西线高速公路约2公里。为省级自然保护区,主要保护对象是海南坡鹿及其生态环境。保护区内主要动物有海南坡鹿、海南兔、蟒、穿山甲、原鸡、海南山鹧鸪等。

海南邦溪坡鹿自然保护区自1521年有记载始,至1936年之前,全岛外围地带几乎都有坡鹿分布。上世纪五六十年代,随着人类生活圈扩展,坡鹿分布点缩减至西部经济相对落后地区。至七十年代末、八十年代初,坡鹿仅残留不足30只,邻近灭绝边缘。由此成了国家一级保护动物,被称为“稀世之宝”。

邦溪地区是海南坡鹿的原生地,区内有维管束植物有101科、284属、374种,其中151种为坡鹿喜食植物,是坡鹿生殖繁衍的理想之地。七十年代末尚有坡鹿群在境内生活,但至八十年代初,由于捕捉和滥杀全部灭绝。九十年代初,海南邦溪省级自然保护区重新恢复,从东方大田野外捕捉了18头坡鹿回来训养。经过13年来的努力,坡鹿已从原来18头增加到几百头。

邦溪镇是镇级建制,地名很有意思,邦溪在黎语里音近“烧鸡”,据传因有人偷鸡用火烧熟吃而得名。境内有海榆公路和邦(溪)什(运)公路。邦溪区内气候属于热型热带气候,有别于海南岛内其它区域,旱湿季明显,旱季长达7-8个月,雨季短,集中在8、9月份,年平均降雨量约1000mm。日照时间长且强,平均温度24°c,极端最高温37.5°c。极端最低温3°c,年蒸发量高达2500mm,是降雨量的2.5倍。
