| 巨蚊属 Toxorhynchites 蚊科巨蚊亚科仅有的一属。大型蚊虫，具金属光泽。通称巨蚊。遍布各动物地理界，已知达 70 种。中国有 6 种。比较常见的代表种是华丽巨蚊。幼虫主要孳生在树洞、竹筒以及缸罐等容器的积水中。卵单产，圆或椭圆形，正常浮在水面，产出后经1～2天即卵化。幼虫肉食，捕食其他共栖蚊类幼虫，甚而自相残食。幼虫期的长短由食物和温度决定，如果缺乏食物，可延长至 4 个月以上。成蚊白日飞翔，以花蜜为生。两性都不吸血，因而在医学上没有重要性。巨蚊由于具有成蚊不吸血和幼虫肉食的特点，被视为在容器中孳生的媒介蚊类埃及伊蚊和白纹伊蚊等的天敌。为此，人们曾把某些种类引入太平洋岛屿，或通过大量养殖散布到自然界，但它们的防治效果极为有限。 |
